...where Fairies are that folk Declare have vanished. Unknown Designer. Issued 1933-1949.

Do you Wonder.

Do you Wonder... HN1544

When Tinker Bell is sick in J.M.Barry's play Peter Pan, everybody in the audience has to affirm their belief in fairies to save her by crying out, 'I do believe in fairies!'. Thanks to the success of this play in the early 1900s, fairies were back in vogue and their existence was 'proven' in the 1920s with the famous Cottingley photographs which purported to show fairies dancing at the bottom of the garden. Doulton responded to this new fairy phenomenon with some beautiful little figurines of fairies cavorting amongst flowers and toadstools by Leslie Harradine. Children hunting for fairies were also popular subjects for Harradine, as with the figurine 'Do You Wonder Where Fairies Are That Folk Declare Have Vanished?'
